PB Banana Oatmeal Smoothie

Where was I?
Books and Bones?

Then nothing has changed :)

I still spend an obscenely amount of time on fictional love stories and indulge in geeky forensic anthropology details at other times. I've thrown all my social life out of the window. The only time I actually do interact is at work, and when I stop by to grab dinner after work!

Did I mention I was all about David Boreanaz now? Everytime he smiles and winks I melted a little..or died a little inside. Ok well I might have exaggerated a little but damn he's hot!

Oh and I do have a new indulgence. I'm mad on smoothies these days so I wake up 10 minutes earlier everyday to make a Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Smoothie for breakfast. Sinfully good. And I also double the dollop of peanut butter every time. I really put my mum's blender to good use.

It's so easy to whip up this perfect breakfast. 1 cup of vanilla yogurt, 1 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of old fashioned rolled oats, 1 medium banana frozen overnight and as much peanut butter as you want.

It is honestly the next best thing after Nutella. I wish I'd discover it sooner.

So there you go. Books, Bones and PB Banana Oatmeal Smoothie. Sums up my life right now!

Books and Bones.

I have nothing in my life to update you with.

I spent 10 hours at work, 7 hours of sleep at best, food, a little bit of gym. The remaining hours are all spent on my 2 new found loves - books (or rather, ebooks) and bones.

My real world has been replaced completely by books (not that I'm complaining). I now have a serious deviation from real life, where I enjoyed being with the fictional characters one after another, and honestly, one of the worst feeling is feeling like I'm getting dumped by all the fictional characters after finishing one book. I used to see people in the bus reading, in the plane, and heck, even when they're lying on the beach with shades and bikinis under the sun, they're still holding a book. I always doubted if they're actually reading or it's just all a pretense. I should have known better. Now, even amidst a party, I managed to block everything out and just indulge in my wonderful fictions. I know. It really can't be healthy. I can't even remember the last time I see my actual friends! Each time they suggest dinner or weekend malls, I managed to give an excuse so I can stay home and read. This is VERY bad.

And then, my sister introduced me to Bones. I started from Season 1 and I'm hooked! I'm onto Season 3 right now and pissed that Funshion decided to block the access and now I have to skip Season 3 and 4 to go straight to 5! What on earth!

So yah.

That's my 2 favorite things now. Lying in bed with a book and watch Bones at the same time. Bliss!

I haven't been feeling much excitement towards anything. And whilst I tried, I didn't feel the least bit of kick from anything. I fell asleep a while ago. When I startled awake after only merely 30 minutes of some awesome dream, I felt that ache, because of how mundane I felt things in my real life are right now. I wish there's a sweet surprise hiding at the corner making me smile.

I Love My Paperbacks.

I finally gave in.

For the past couple of weeks (or months?), I have been toying with the idea of getting an ebook reader. But I just couldn't do it. I hate it. I hate reading from this flat screen gadget. I love my paperbacks. I love my coarse yellow imperfect paper. I love how they fit in my hand. I love the sound of turning the pages. I love finishing the book and closing the last page, as if closing a chapter of my life. I love putting it on my lap while I fiddle with my phone. I love them the way they are.

But the convenience tempts me. The promise of thousands of book with just a click away tempts me. The portability and how it fits in my handbag while I travel around in buses and trains tempts me. The cheap $7.99 ebook tempts me.

So I gave in.

It's finally here for me. The age of ebook.

Almost Complete Family

Holy hell. I'm depressed as fuck.

Evidently due to the end of the awesome Chinese New Year holidays!

Now that everyone is back to where they belong and do what they used to do, I will also bury my head back into my fantasy world of Kellan Kyle the Rock God.

Hopefully work day tomorrow will ease up a little bit!

Fifty Shades of Grey

Haha. I cannot agree more! ..after spending 1 whole day buried in the book without turning on my laptop or checking on my mobile. I couldn't put the book down. No funshion *gasps* No PPS *gasps* 8 continuous hours of Christian Grey drives me crazy. Now I'm feeling a little upset when it ended. 3 books in 1 week full of Christian Grey phew now I'm suffering from Christian Grey withdrawal symptoms. I even googled it and seems like Im not the only one since there's a fifty support group =)

To start with, I might even add the desire to sample fine wines and eating oysters as my withdrawal symptom haha.

The movie is going to be out next year (I hope), I cannot wait! The little insight from the final book leaves me craving for a 4th book from Christian's point of view. That would be damn interesting!

Fifty Shades

Hooray!

I think I've got my mojo back. I've been reading like nobody's business. In the car at the traffic light (if I drive), in the bus, in the train, in the toilet, every now and then at work, at lunch, late into the night, morning. Anytime everywhere.

I love it! I've long forgotten how much I like to bury my head in books. The last novel I read was...13 or 14 years ago? I used to read a book every other day, exchanging books with people and borrowing from 2nd hand bookstore. Oh how can I forget my friends who loved to read more than I do. Especially Michele! She's ALWAYS heads down in class, with a book on her lap while the teacher is babbling in front. She reads more than I do. Oh yes. WAY MORE.

I've started with something really light. 'The Secret', then moved on to 'Hunger Games', followed by 'Eat Pray Love', 'The Magic', and now the trilogy of Fifty Shades.

Fifty Shades. Erotic romance aside, E.L James has definitely made Christian Grey unbelievably charming. I'm completely hooked!

'Laters, baby!'

Continuing with Day 3. We didn't have anything planned. Max suggested Wufenpu 五分埔 because it seems to be the best shopping area for tourists and things should be dirt cheap as it's a wholesale market.

Wufenpu is around 5 minutes walk from Houshanpi 后山埤 station.

We reached Wufenpu around 10AM and none of the shops are open! So we looked for breakfast instead. Walked almost 45 minutes around the area and cannot find any decent food.

After an hour, we finally passed by this little stall that sells mantau with vege and pork.

Peanut is yummeh! But right after I finished the peanut and left with shredded pork then I threw it away  because pork is kind of dry without any sauce.

Since we have no idea when Wufenpu opens, we decided to take the bus from Wufenpu to Taipei 101. Bus ride is less than S$2 and only takes around 5-10 minutes. Bus driver is very friendly! We didn't know we only need to pay the bus fare before we alight the bus (in Singapore, you pay after you board the bus), but bus driver told us politely when to pay and asked us where we want to go. We said Taipei 101 and the bus driver actually told us which is the correct stop to alight, and reminded us when the bus reached the stop. So nice!

Kevin bought the 1 day prepaid data mobile from 台湾大哥大. It's around S$15-20 with unlimited data usage.

Agnes B cafe! I wonder when they're coming to Singapore?

We had lunch in the Taipei 101 basement food centre. I ordered none other than 滷肉饭 with 猪扒. Told you that's what I eat the whole time in Taiwan. I really really really really really liked 滷肉饭. Penang's 古早味  滷肉饭 and 盐酥鸡 is pretty good too. I missed that a lot!

Kevin's sotong with fried pork cutlet. Everwhere is deep fried chicken and pork cutlet!

Inside Taipei 101. Nothing much to shop around. It's like Singapore's ION or Pavillion with only the branded stores.

We wanted to go up to Taipei 101 observatory but the outdoor observatory was closed due to bad weather. What luck! It's NT$450 per person and people still queued for the indoor observatory. We think indoor is quite potong stim so decided to forgo it instead.

Didn't manage to go up so simply take a photo with the wall paintings. Better than nothing right.

Dark, rainy, gloomy weather. The sky was grey the whole time we're in Taipei.

The wind is crazy. You can probably tell from my hair. Like lion ok!

Nah. This is after I combed it nicely but then when I whip out the camera the wind became crazy again.

Walked around Taipei 101 area and lots of street deco. They even still have the Christmas trees up at that time!

Back to Wufenpu 五分埔 around 4pm. Spotted a black pig dressed, waiting for its owner outside a store!

The guys bargaining for cheaper shoes, and got scold crazy because they tried to bargain it lower hahah.

To be honest,  五分埔 is quite a let down. The area is huge, with tops lesser than NT$100 and dresses lesser than NT$300. But the fashion is quite outdated and quite ah lian please. I'm already very ah lian yet I couldn't find anything to buy. Ended up buying 3 pairs of socks. The socks are sooo soft and comfy!

Halfway through wufenpu,  I had a sudden urge to pee. We looked around wufenpu but couldn't find any toilet. My bladder almost burst! We saw YMCA and figured they probably have toilets inside. That YMCA is not the usual hotel YMCA,  but it's a tuition center. They have a toilet on the 4th (or 6th?) floor.

So now you know. If you're in Wufenpu area near to YMCA, there's a toilet there ;)

After walking around for 1 hour, we decided the place is not for us and probably wouldnt be able to buy anything even if we continued. We left, and stopped at this cafe on the way back to Houshanpi 后山埤 station. They say coffee is good.

We left the cafe around 6 and took the MRT to Shilin 士林夜市. We alighted at 剑潭站. There's already a huge crowd at 6PM.

Max saw this and we ordered 2. It taste a little weird, but cooling and sweet. I asked him what is this and he said he has no idea. Then we pass by another stall selling the same thing, and the stall wrote 青蛙下蛋 (frog lays eggs) with pictures of frog and egg (!!!!). Both of us looked at each other and instantly felt nauseated. We threw the drink away ahahaha. So not sure if its really frog egg? Or just plain Ai Yu??

Our first snack. Fried squid?octopus? leg. We ordered this everywhere we go. Nice and crunchy.

PeiShan has already warned me against this 豪大大鸡排 but we decided to still try it since we're already there. Not sure why we queued since they even have franchise in Singapore.

It's OK lah not too bad I actually think it's pretty crunchy. We're supposed to share but I'm the only one eating. They didn't even take a bite!

Bittergourd everywhere!

Lots of different kinds of pearls for different kinds of tea/milk tea.

I was excited to see 可丽饼 (crepe) again and I ordered the same butter and cheese again!

Saw another stall on the way back to the station and this stall has an even longer queue! I really wanted to try this but nobody want to share with me =(

We left Shilin night market after 1-1.5 hours. We only had crepe, fried sotong leg, frog egg drink wtf and fried chicken cutlet. THAT'S IT. I ALSO CANNOT BELIEVE WE ONLY HAD SO LITTLE THINGS!

We took the MRT from 剑潭站 to 龙山站. Longshan Temple is still open. Does the temple even close? I think local (SG and MY) temples closed after evening. Our Taiwanese co-workers told us this temple is one of the oldest temple and it's a must visit because it's very 灵. The temple was built during Qing dynasty. We were pretty lucky because we were just in time to buy the joss sticks before the counter closes.

The people there are quite friendly too. We didn't know where to start, and which follows which. So the locals told us which to start. At 8pm, there're still many locals praying.

After temple, we proceeded to Snake Alley. It's just right down the street from Longshan temple. Snake alley has a couple of restaurants that serve snakes (duh!). We were disappointed we didn't see anyone ordering or slicing open live snakes, but they do have a few big snakes on display. Those restaurants also serve turtle soups. I kept persuading Max to try it out but he didn't dare. The shop owner was on a speaker and he kept shouting at us "TRY THIS DONT WORRY SO MUCH IT TASTE LIKE CHICKEN" haha.

Next, we walked over to 花西夜市which is just right beside. We sat down at this stall which sells red bean soup and green bean soup with mochi. We tried it with you tiau and chatted with the girl for like 15 minutes. She's really cute, and she's only 23. Her little brother is even cuter!

By then, I already cant feel my legs. It seems like they don't belong to me anymore. My flats are not comfortable at all and it's not meant to be walked in for the whole day. It hurts so much!

We walked all the way from 花西夜市 to our hotel at 康定 road. It's a 20-30 minutes walk! I almost died. Kevin already went clubbing and only Max walked with me back to the hotel. He tried to talk to me about any and every thing we see along the road but I'm so exhausted so I gave him the super tulan face the whole time haha. I honestly briefly considered buying the uber comfy boots which is S$400 wtf. Can you tell my legs really hurt like a bitch?

Wow. Looks like I'm on some blogging frenzy. This site has been neglected a tad lately. I'm thinking when I'm done with Taiwan, I'd love to go back writing about Italy. Because that's definitely one trip I wouldn't want to forget. I've been delaying it because there's just tooooo many things and tooooo many photos.

One at a time.
One at a time...

The rest of them woke up early and had hotel buffet at 7.45AM. I bought this Quaker oat drink from the supermarket earlier so I slept a little longer and had that instead. It's good! I wished they sell it here too!!

We went into office, met the people, discussed a little and left office for lunch. I was brought to this little place few shops down the road from my hotel to have 滷肉饭 with 滷蛋 and 苦瓜排骨汤 ( bitter gourd with pork soup). Off track a bit, DO YOU ALL NOTICE MY MANDARIN HAS GREATLY IMPROVED? hahahaha. Honestly I've learnt so much mandarin from this trip. In fact I learnt more mandarin than my own work project haha.

And the 滷肉饭 is soo good! I never had 苦瓜汤 before. It tasted a little weird but I can accept it. Bitter gourd is said to be an excellent detoxifier so I guess all is good.

3 of us went back to the hotel, wrote reports and packed for Taipei through the high speed rail.

There was a miscommunication with the counter lady and we ended up buying free seating rail tickets, which is only less than S$1 cheaper =( Luckily it was a weekday afternoon so there're still many seats left.

Taipei main station. Our hotel is in Bannan Line. We booked the hotel 1 day before we flew off. Most good hotels are taken, and only left Minsu. I wouldn't have minded minsu but they are quite reluctant. I've seen photos of minsu and they seem decent and clean. In the end, we randomly picked a hotel from Agoda.com.

FerrarY Hotel hahaha. It's around 5-10 mins walk from Ximen station. When we reached the place I couldn't believe my eyes. WHY SO DODGY, SO RUNDOWN? So we laughed and laughed and took photos with it before we went in to confirm we indeed booked this haunted place wtf.

Receptionists are very friendly and helpful. Surprisingly, the room was pretty good too!

We booked the family room, with 1 double bed and 1 single bed. 2 nights cost S$300.

Toilet is crazy big though. The shower area can fit 10 man. Serious!

Looks better at night when they turn on the lights.

Walked from hotel to Xi Men Ding and passed by the famous and most talked about bubble tea shop in Taiwan 50 岚. I ordered the green milk tea with small pearl. It's good! I like it! I'm glad Singapore's Koi is as good. It seems Koi was opened by some guy from 50 岚too so the quality should be on par. Singapore's Koi does not have small pearl though. Why didn't they bring in the small pearl?

First stop: Ximen Red House! We do not know the history of the place, but went in anyway because I've seen people write about it as a 'must visit'. In the end, we agreed it's a must visit because the toilet is free hahaha. Sorry la we very cheapo because it's so tough to find a toilet in Ximending area! We did contribute though and bought some unique toys there.

The back of the building is the Cultural and Creative Development Center. It's said to have 16 creative boutiques there selling unique and creative products.

Shop selling hand made bags and little purses.

Kevin bought the hand made passport cover there.

There're a lot more unique items like this on display with description. As it's mostly in Mandarin, I just simply glanced through.

Some random wall painting. hahaha. I suck at giving good descriptions. People learn nothing from me.

Off to walk around Ximending area in search for dinner. It rained the whole night!

We took this because one of my coworker really really likes 'little pig' (the guy in WeChat advertisement).

Not crowded at all. I like to walk around here so much more compared to the night markets! There are so many things to see here.

4 floors for the hair salon. Every corner we turn, we saw a different Crazy Hair Salon. Saw almost 4 of them in 1 small area. Very crazy indeed! I'm so tempted to go and wash my hair so I don't have to wash later at night. Didn't manage to though because too busy eating.

Again! We were strolling around the area and then comes the notorious stinky tofu smell. They bought stinky tofu everywhere we go! Seriously i've never smelled anything worse. I really can't bring myself to even take a bite.

Strolled around. Bought nothing.

Ah Chung Mee Sua (Oyster Vermicelli)!!!!! I've heard so much about it! Nobody can say they have visited Taiwan without trying at least a bowl of Ah Chung Mee Sua (at least that's what I was told). So even though I don't eat oyster, I ordered one to try. You won't miss the shop. It's very near to the Rainbow hotel and there's a huge crowd in front of the shop. There are no seats so people have to stand by the side of the street to eat.

Ordering is simple and fuss free. Only need to say whether you want big or small lol. I can't remember but I think it's only less than S$2 a bowl.

Stewed broth was thick and flavorful. Argh it's really pretty good. I gave all my oysters to Max but the mee sua itself is quite satisfying.

haha Jakun betul. We saw the pink hearted guava and bought one to try. It so much sweeter and sceptic  me believed they bathed it in sugar water.

The guys bought caps, scarves, toys etc. I bought...nothing. We were so tired from walking so randomly picked a cafe for drinks. The first themed cafe we picked was really unique and decorated creatively. Unfortunately they are about to close and the guy said most cafes in that area close at 10 too. So after walking around a bit, we found this instead. It closes a little past midnight.

Taiwanese style photo taking? Need to senget a bit.

Never tasted a worse waffle in my life.

We decided to go sing K around midnight. Our room for 3 is big enough to accomodate 10. I can't remember but I think they charge by room. It's only less than S$20 for 2 hours.

2 hours of sing-a-thon. Room comes with 3 drinks and 3 snacks so we ordered fried sotong ball etc. System was easy to navigate and there's toilet in the room. Convenient indeed so we can take the mic into the toilet and sing while pee hahahah must make full use of the 2 hours ma.

Party World Ximending is hugeeeeee. It has 12 floors!

The night ended around 2AM, walked back hotel and slept around 3. Argh I really missed that night! Haven't been that relaxed and carefree for a long looooong time! Weather's cooling, great company and everything else seems so right in place.
