Marmalade Pantry Ion

I met up with JG and had dinner at Wheelock Place's Skinny Pizza. I've been there once with the girls so I thought it'd be ideal for dinner on Sunday night since it's less crowded over at the Wheelock's. Then we proceeded to Ion for some late night famous Marmalade Pantry desserts, which was raved about by most reviewers.

Grossly overrated. We ordered Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake. I can't remember what the other one is called, some fancy name. It's ok to forget about it because after 1 bite, I didn't even bother to taste it again. Maybe it's because we're too full from Skinny Pizza's black pepper prawn linguine and Good Ol' Ham & Cheese Pizza. I'd love to try the Marmalade Pantry high tea set again soon if I have the chance.

Ok ending the entry with a hot guy photo. Haha. Saw this in FB and thought it's funny. I even showed this to Stephen and ask if he can try to achieve that body I mean you guys would agree with me right? Man pelvic bones are sexy haha.

New Ubin Seafood

To counter Monday blue, we arranged for a zi char dinner after work at this secluded industrial area. I had to take a 15 mins bus from my office to Kovan NE Line MRT, alight at Serangoon MRT to change to Circle Line, then alight at Bishan MRT to change to NS Line, then alight at Ang Mo Kio MRT station, met up with the rest of them, took a bus and alighted 5 stops away, walked 5 mins, then we reached the place. Phew.

This is in Serangoon station. Bishan station has triple this amount of people!! CRAZY NOT! I couldn't even get into the train! People from the back pushed me all the way into the train and I'm stuck there. My friend couldn't get in even after 4 trains. I'm so glad I have direct bus from my company back home. It's not a full bus and I always get seats. TingMin say she has to go through this every single day! Horrible!

This restaurant is hidden in between the car repair shops. The air-conditioned area is very small and it can only fit 5-6 tables. 1 table can fit around 8-10 people. It is extremely noisy inside the room due to all the echo so the owner soundproofed the room with real egg crates. Cheap but not very effective.

5 of us ordered 2 fried beehoon (which BY claimed is the best beehoon he had ever tried), 1 fried rice, pork knuckles, curry fish head, braised tofu, salted egg yolk crab.

Obviously we couldn't finish the fish head, tofu and pork knuckles. What a waste!
Chinese fried rice is aromatic and delicious. Everybody likes it more than the fried beehoon. Curry fish head is good, crab is mediocre, deep fried pork knuckle is crunchy, dry and un-greasy. Total for 5 of us is S$130, about S$26 per person. Anything with crab in Singapore is overpriced.

Would I go again?
NO.
It's not because the food is not good enough but because it is not a cab or public transport accessible area. The area is quite secluded and I don't feel safe walking around there. Do you know what a big deal that is? I've never felt unsafe in Singapore before.

I came home pretty upset because my friend actually said over dinner that I'm fat. I've always been self conscious of my weight but then, which girl isn't? Which girl likes to be told they gained weight ah? Ok maybe he didn't use the word 'FAT' but he said I've gained more weight and look more MANTAP now wtf what a nice word trying to say someone is big sized D:

Then my girl friend who's as thin as (if not thinner than) ShuShan say "she's not fat la. even I'm (she) fatter than her (me)"

#okay.jpeg

We're not even in the same rank. Her arms are half of mine and when she said that, it actually makes me feel 100 times worse. Not sure why she said that. (1) She's trying to be nice so I won't feel bad after being told blatantly I'm fat (2) She's blind.

Nola just kidding. She's tiny and pretty. Plus I've known them for ages, and if they can't be honest with me about what they think then who else can??!! It's all universe's fault (coz nobody else to blame).
FAT meh? Un-photoshopped ok! I actually thought I lost weight! If you mean I'm big sized and all. C'mon. I've played tennis the 1st 20 years of my life. It has to leave some "signs" on my physical structure right?! I'm not really weight-trained but I do have litttttttle bit of muscle. I've always had that athletic body and strong and wide shouldered and manly. What you expect me to do?

Do a jaw reconstructive surgery to make my wide face become V line ah? Or take a saw and chop off my shoulder blades? Or use a rough sandpaper and polish off my hip bones? Or use a scissors and cut off the fats dangling from my arms? Ha?

I know even all of you feel irritated about me talking about weight all the time. But can you blame me? Now you know why. I have people telling me to watch my weight every now and then. THEY are the one who make me self conscious about my weight when I should not! I don't know if I'm on denial or what but I really don't think I've gained weight or anywhere near fat. Why do people always make weight such an issue and make life hard? Can't even eat nasi lemak or curry mee in peace? It makes me happy! Why do people just have to comment about weight ALL THE TIME? Ok I know who to blame. Blame the media! It fucking portrays all the skinny boney woman and relate them to "pretty" and "beautiful" and "gorgeous". If you're not that, oh then I have to remind you to watch your weight.

Ok. Just needed to rant. It's not really that big of a deal wtf.

Pretty Puppy In Town

I've heard rave reviews of Watami so we decided to try out the ION branch after work. Reminder to self: Never EVER take Express 518 to Orchard from Pasir Ris. NEVER! It's faster to walk 500m, take a bus to the 7th stop Kovan MRT station, take the MRT to the 7th stop Dhoby Ghaut MRT, change to the red line and alight 2 stops after at Orchard MRT. Horrible 518 took me 1.5 damn hours stuck in the jam! And it's not even Friday!

We ordered the Izakaya Set $125 that came with 4 mugs of Asahi and a whole bunch of random stuff.

The waiter gave us this 'thing' and Hwa asked him if it's edible or for decoration purposes haha. Turns out its some fried pasta sticks which we munched away with the beer.

Only thing I'm happy with is this Kimchi Nabae set. We can't stop drinking and asking the waitress to refill the spicy soup. So addictive. Overall I'm sorely disappointed with the food. We expected more from all the ravings.

That's one of our puppy visiting from KL. Taking photos together with her is nightmare. She has always been fair-skinned and has the smallest love shape face and tiniest body. Makes everybody else unhappy with themselves wtf. Hui Ching was there too but she hates taking photos and possibly would hate being posted here too haha.

Everytime I meet up with the girls, I left feeling like some overweight beast. Argh! Only yesterday I told myself I shall stop eating 2 man's portion of food, but ended up having 1 big bowl of cereal, 1 banana, 1 bread for breakfast, and still hungry =(

Daniel Meets The Fans.

We went to Overtime Dempsey Hill right after work today to catch Daniel's 'Meet the Fan' session. Don't know who is Daniel?

Daniel is................ 陈晓东. haha. I can almost hear the "Ohhhhhhhhhhh" under your breath. We're not his fans but Evon is. I still remember clearly almost all 10 of us had a sleepover in LiHe's house when we're 13?14? and watched 初恋无限touch together!

We all loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the movie and loveeeeeeeeee him and loveeeeeeeeee the song in it and I think most of us bought his cassette. All of us wanted to grow up to find that kind of love ;)

Meet the Fan session starts at 8.30pm and we reached at 7pm, even then all the tables are fully occupied and we're lucky to get a 2 person table. We took it and squeezed in anyway.

She bought the $70 limited edition album. And she's also the 1st person to shake Daniel's hand tonight.

He finally arrived after 2 hours! I nearly fell asleep waiting.

He look like he hasn't aged at all. He look exactly like how he was 10 years ago! I didn't know any of his songs so I was pretty bored. Evon, however, went on stage to get her album signed.

We tried Overtime's supposedly very famous own brewed beer - Starker Aromatic Beer. Buy 1 Free Half for $21.20. HuiChing hated it because it's bland and it taste nothing like a beer. Food is not worthy of the price too. Fire Pork is not crispy, not spicy, tasteless. We're so disappointed with every single dish.

안녕하 세요 (annyeonghaseyo)

I just figured out why the photos in previous entries are super blur. Adjusted the HTML setting and suddenly it became crystal clear. Now picnic look so much more appealing!

Sorry for the bad quality. My compact camera has failed me. That's Mavis's hubby who flew from Korea to look for a job so he can settle down in SG with Mavis. Big sacrifice in the name of love ;) We were talking like Pasar Auntie the whole night and he couldn't understand a word. We only said "Annyeong Haseyo" to him haha that's about it. And that also we thought Annyeong Haseyo means I love you wtf. Fail max!

All looking exhausted after a day's work and rushing to the city with bus/MRT to reach at 7 so we can have some good Kenny Rogers for dinner.

‘Kata love Mavis'
Our gift to pretty Mavis who recently got married in Korea. She went through the very traditional Korean wedding and took awesome fairytale wedding photos!

We don't get to meet everyday, maybe only once every 2 months, at best once a month with everyone's busy city life. But every time we meet, we felt so comfortable with each other because we speak the same lousy slang and have the same opinion on almost everything. I guess that's how it is when you grew up in the same kampung and learnt the same thing ;)

The Hossan Leong Show

My colleague randomly showed me a brochure one day and asked if I'm interested to go watch this Hassan's show and I'm like huh who's Hassan wtf. His real name is Hossan Leong and he's a Singapore comedian so I said sure why not since everyone's going anyway even though it's S$55 per person.

This is..err..Hassan.

I met up with 7 of them in Drama Center, National Library Building near Bugis Junction. And I'm severely underdressed. Most of the people there are in formal dresses and heels and makeup all over. But then, hmm, it's Singapore. Everyone's always overdressed anyway.

The hall wasn't very big, probably just 30 rows? And few more rows upstairs. We're seated at the 2nd last row but can still see his face clearly.

It's......okay. It's not that I dont think he's funny, it's just that he's not hilarious. But for Singapore standard, good enough lah. If you are not Singaporean, you probably won't be able to catch most of the jokes since it's all making fun of the recent SG General Election, Presidential Election, and the current local issues like foreign talent, domestic helpers, then they made their own version of Iron Chef and So You Think You Can Dance.

It's a good night out but I don't think I'll go for the 4th episode.

Swensens And Japanese.

The boss dragged all of us out for lunch on him out of a sudden. Probably 3rd or 4th this year. This time it's in Swensen's and each of us get to order a main entrée of our choice, 1 side, 1 mushroom soup, 1 ice cream and 1 soda.

End up we ordered all the sides in the menu since there's almost 18 of us.

#1 The guys. Not that I want to curi take their photo but because they got their food earlier and the girls have nothing to do except complaining why ours are so slow.

#2 The famous U.S fries. konon la. Not very nice also. But I finished most of it since nobody else wants it.

#3 My side. The spicy chix fingers.

#4 My entrée. Grilled barramundi with lemon butter sauce with mashed potato (that flower-like thing). Only managed to eat half of it coz I'm stuffed from all the sides!

By the way,
I did my Japanese final exam today woohoo finally after 6 looong months. I don't know if I will pass (I sure hope I do) but if fail then no choice but to go back and re-sit lor. I get 1 month rest before the next level starts, so yay to free Monday nights!

I'm pretty happy with my year so far. I think I made good progress, unlike previous few years where resolution is made but never fulfilled. Previous few years are spent doing absolutely nothing which is..kinda fun too wtf.

So now I have to concentrate on that one item which had been on my list for like..FOREVER...which is...losing off the extra weights la what else! I can foresee it failing also this year. I tried to exercise..really! I ran for 300m (not even 1 football field) and started to feel out of breath and my vision is blur and I want to faint. I'm serious! Is that what age does to people! /finding excuse wtf. So yah...I need to make time for bodyrocking 3 days a week at least! (i actually wrote 5 then change to 4 now 3 wtf).

Perhentian 2011

1 weekend of confined skill sessions & final theory exam, 1 weekend of sun, sea breeze, crystal clear water, rainy beer nights, new friendships, heavy tanks, hammocks, 4 open water dives, 4 hours of flight time, 2 hours of van time, 2 hours of boat ride....

we're all finally proud PADI divers.

Mad For Garlic

One random Friday we decided to make a trip down to Suntec City after work to try this restaurant that XiaoJun raved about so many times. If someone can rave about one restaurant for more than 5 times then there's no reason you don't go try it out right.

Mad For Garlic, a unique restaurant that offered 40 kinds of Italian dishes with a Korean twist. The restaurant originated from Korea and it is a hit in Singapore. We were there on a Friday night and it was packed. On weekends if we do not make a reservation then we will have to sit outdoor which is not very comfortable. Some of the waiter/tress are Korean and there're also a lot of Korean customers too.

Their signature dishes: Dracula Killer, Garlic Snowing Pizza, Garlicpeno Pasta, Mushroom Risotto and Garlic Steak, which we did not manage to order all cause there's only 5 of us.

#1 The interior is as expected, full of GARLIC and wines and wine glasses. We thought it's almost like a dracula house err and the hanging wine racks right on top of our table. No actually right on top of our head.

#3 Anchovy garlic cream fondue. Which is the best we had for the night. No I mean the rest are good too but I love love love this! The bread is soft yet crunchy and when dipped into the garlic cream fondue...heavenly! But I'm thinking the next time I go I'll request them to replace all the extras (tomato and greens) with bread. Absolutely mouthwatering.

#4 Garlic bread tower. If you think this is a normal garlic bread then you're so wrong. The bread came standing with lots of garlic bits on top then the waitress will press them all down into the middle and lie it flat and cut it into pieces. Not the usual garlic bread but is really BREAD WITH GARLIC BITS you know what I mean?

#5 Garlic Snowing Pizza. Sweet garlic pizza topped with shrimps and pineapple dice. The waiter did 1 round of cheese snowing on top, but we requested for 1 more round so it's so FULL of cheese then we can barely see the fried garlic bits and shrimp on top!

#6 Mushroom risotto. Risotto cooked with spinach and mushroom topped with grilled chicken leg. Obviously I didn't try this one because it's full of mushroom and I hate risotto coz I'm super Cina like that. I hate WET rice! But I can tell they don't really like this dish coz they say it's too spicy for their liking.

#7 3 of us ordered Garlicholic Rice. Special fried rice with garlic pickles, shrimp and asparagus. We're a bit too greedy because we should have just ordered two. The entree is huge so none of us could finish it. I...don't really like this because there's just TOO MUCH garlic! There's like 40% garlic cloves in it, not the small chopped ones that we use for chinese cooking but the big cloves and many many of them! Err I'm okay with garlic but this is wayyyyyyyyyyy over.

Bill comes up to $109 for 2 starters (garlic bread tower and garlic cream fondue), 5 entrée and 5 warm water, which translates to just $22 per person for all that food!

If you're not a garlic lover, there's also a couple of other dishes you can try but very limited though. Otherwise, try this place out! I'm sure you'd love the bread garlic cream fondue! At least I do =) Which reminds me, if Joe is okay with garlic I should totally buy him a dinner here since he paid for mine like 2374623465234873459 times wtf.

Downside? I burp and fart garlic the whole night and even had a garlic pee wtf.

A Random Saturday

The guys told me there's this Toroniku (roast pork cheek ) ramen with the juiciest most tender soft pork I've ever tasted in Santouka at The Central. They told me the pork will literally MELT in my mouth. I didn't believe them but they kept convincing me so...yah. Off to The Central we go.

Santouka Ramen is quite hidden at the corner of the building that we nearly missed it. Queue was tolerable that Saturday lunch. Almost 15 mins wait only.

#1 Roast Pork Cheek. As promised, it really does MELT IN MY MOUTH YUMMEHHHHHH. I was told pork cheek is very rare and only about 200g can be taken from 1 pig.

#2 There are 3 types of ramen soup: Shio Ramen (Salt Flavor), Miso Ramen (SoyBean Paste Flavor) and Shoyu Ramen (Soy Sauce Flavor). I think I chose Shoyu Ramen. Even though the pork cheek is really tender but I can't finish it cause a bit too salty for me. Still, it does melt in the mouth! Each set of this is around $18 which is pretty cheap considering pork cheek is so rare? Dont know eh.

#3 After lunch we dropped by this boardgame shop tucked at the quiet corner of the mall which I never knew existed on Orchard street lol. Nicky is super into boardgame and he wanted to go check out any new games or what and since we have nothing to do we just tagged along. To hear him rave on and on about boardgame is so funny.

It reminds me of those times I played boardgame with Pey and the rest. Not very often because I'm not a big fan but with Pey is the only times I actually really play the boardgame from start till the end, including Munchkin, Ticket To Ride, Puerto Rico, hmmm I think that's about it only. When I play boardgame I never strategise like how the others did. I just play to pass time and if can cheat, I will cheat wtf.

#4 Then we....went to eat again. This time at this small shop that has nice soya milk + butter croissant where they showed me all their iPhone apps which is like a million of them and they get so excited talk about this app can do this do that. One of it is like it can tell exact colors and one of it can arrange the best sleeping time for u like that. For me, I only have like 5 apps in my phone, most of it is for MRT and SG buses time wtf.

#5 On the way back to hang out at their place we pass by the street where a lot of people stood by the road side holding opposition party flag. Then only we found out it's Chiam See Tong's farewell after losing Potong Pasir area in the general election 1 day before. He's the old man in the middle on top of the lorry. He suffered from stroke in 2008 and couldn't even stand straight. Maybe that's why the public feels he's not able to fight for the citizen anymore. When I see him there that day thanking people for supporting him all those previous years and looking so defeated, I felt so touched even though I dont know him at all.

A Week in Photos

Last week can be summarized with a few photos. Honestly nowadays I seldom pick up the camera and snap everything I see unlike last time but will try to take more photos with the phone okay. My blog is critically photo deprived.

#1 Andrew is leaving to Macau for company team building so the night before we went to Bedok North Blk 85 for supper. That hawker was huge and claimed to have one of the best porridge, grilled fish and oyster egg. In the end we hang out a lil too late until my last bus also left already so I had to take cab back wtf. Eating supper in SG is not cheap coz have to include sgd8 cab fare lol.

#2 5 of my colleagues came back from Taipei business trip already and they brought along TONS of snacks. All the packaging are so niceeeeeeee and taste really good too! Not good for me though every afternoon I just keep snacking and snacking like nobody's business. Next batch of business trip is in May so no more snacks till then!

#3 Rushed to Orchard after work to meet up with Ting Min & Cheryl for dinner. I think the Japanese place is called Hokkaido or something and most of the time it's packed but lucky us nobody was queuing when we reached. We had to take almost 20 photos until we get ONE that is decent because the rest are either too dark or we looked like ghost wtf.

Weekend spent in KL. Rushed to Golden Mile Tower after work to board the 7pm bus and sigh if you travel back to KL don't ever take Konsortium lah it's damn lousy! 6 hours in the bus almost killed me coz it stinks and the seats are soooooo dirty!

#4 Haven't had Jagung shake in Mamak for sooooooooooooo long and this is so good! Make me miss it now =( I forgot the name of the mamak but it's somewhere lah. They had all kinds of shakes but we only ordered Jagung shake, Durian Belanda shake (Soursop) and Banana Shake.

I brought my camera to KL but keep forgetting to bring it out and take photos duh. So only had ONE with this jagung shake taken with the phone wtf fail max.

#5 Bought the much raved about Prosperity Chicken Set. RM13.90 for a burger, small twister fries and Ribena. Overpriced much?!? And it's really nothing to shout about. The burger is damn lousy lah it tastes of nothing but lousy black pepper. If you haven't tried it, don't bother! Go to Carl's Jr or Freshness Burger instead. Twister fries is good though and I think McD has the best fries compared to all other fast food chain!

#6 Mango at the highway rest station as dessert. I wonder if the mango is really THAT sweet or they dip it in sugar water first before wrapping it? I know some places do that right they dipped it to make it sweeter.

I wanted to go shopping for CNY in KL but the weekend is too short and we're out most of the time so end up I didn't buy anything but a RM9 yogurt and RM200++ work clothes which is so cheap only ~RM40 for a blouse. That's about it. How leh everybody bought their CNY clothes already but I have none! /boo
