Tennis

Today is Tennis day with the product engineers.

I did not enjoy it at all. Not sure if it's the strong gusty wind making the ball tak tentu arah, or I'm just exhausted. I woke up at 6 in the morning and left to catch the bus at 6.20! I was restless and literally yawning the whole time I'm playing so I left after barely an hour. On the bus I kept thinking of my room and my oh so comfortable bed.

Reached home, showered and I'm now wide awake. Celaka betul.

Tomorrow is ping pong day with my team mates!

How's everyone doing? Hope you're exercising as much as I am now!

Thoughts.

为什么把钱看得那么重?

That's what my friends asked me, at the Clark Quay Mexican bar after work on Friday. We talked about life while they sipped on their Happy Hour Margaritas. I'm the only one who ordered warm water. Warm water at a bar? Potong stim, I know. But I plan to work when I get home no matter how late.

The conversation started because my bf had his Australian working visa approved. Yes, finally! (throws confetti around congratulating him). He just bought a one way ticket and will be leaving next month. Our relationship has progressed, yet again. From a 3 hours car ride KL to PG, to 5 hours bus ride KL to SG, now to 8 hours flight SG to Aus. Talk about long distance.....getting longer and longer.

I had been working like a mad woman for the past few months. Maybe because of all those crazy amount of work lately, I kept feeling like I'm losing out a lot in life and I needed a rest. Ya ya ya...listen to the lazy part of me talking. As soon as I get lots of work I always feel like I needed a holiday (but then again, who doesn't need a holiday?). Since the bf is migrating to Australia, I'd given some serious consideration about leaving my job for a while..you know..go around. Go visit my sisters in the US, and maybe I can join her on that Italy trip at the end of the year after all. And then I can go over Australia and join the bf and slack around while exploring Aust for a bit..to see if I like it. You know, all that stuff.

But...there're a couple of things stopping me.

1. I just couldn't live with the thought of leaving my job and be unemployed.
Apart from feeling bloody useless, I feel like I'm going to lose out a lot for that period of (what Andrew insists on calling) "in between jobs" (sounds nicer than "unemployed"). I'm smacked right in the middle of my career and with that long period of being jobless, I felt like I would be left behind when I return. What's worse, I just kept counting the amount of money I could have earned for those months that I'm not working! While other people are earning that amount of money, I'm using up my hard earned savings! How can I possibly live with that! What if I can't get a job after my self declared sabbatical ended? Or I get a job that pays lesser? Would I regret it?

2. I have great colleagues.
Although they're not the young bunch who hang out after work, they're really nice, helpful and funny. They're very serious when it comes to work, but during our chillax time, they talk a lot of crap. Like a lot. All the time. We're a mix of China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore (duh!) and Vietnam. I don't think they understand what the other is saying most of the time due to the slang and their command of English, yet they still can talk for hours endlessly.

3. Company's ok.
Well, it's actually better than just OK. It's not the best, but within the semicon wafer fab industry in the country, it's considered one of the leading ones. We don't have as much company benefits like Intel (which basically subsidize for almost every thing), but other than that, I think we're doing pretty good. Though I must say, my 15" inch monitor is really a pain in the ass when I'm viewing wafer maps! A Taiwanese company will never be like an American company. They value work result more than your work life balance or your office ergonomics.

Ok. Back to my point

4. I'm beginning to like this kiasu country.
Surprise surprise! Considering how much I dislike it just 2 years ago, you'd be wondering what makes me change my mind? But really, I just cant stand the thought of leaving just when I'm starting to get really comfortable here and beginning to consider living here permanently. I even filled out all my PR application form already!

So..yah. On THOSE days, I'm so convinced I'm not going to quit and just travel and do nothing. It's a complete waste of time, right?

On OTHER days, I just want to hammer my head hard. What the hell, woman? Those are all just excuses. Why do we work? We work so we can LIVE. And what's living? Is working everyday like a mad woman until the day we die equivalent to living? What's the point of earning all that money if I forget to use them to live?

Almost all my close friends told me to go ahead and stop counting and thinking and worrying so much. It's just a few months or 1 year at most. 回来又是一条好汉! And while I'm on that break, I can use it to take professional certifications and put it to good use when I return to get a job. Most importantly, I have no commitment. I'm single. I don't need to pay for car or house. So if I want to take a sabbatical, now is the time. Otherwise when I officially become a mortgage slave then unemployment is not an option at all. Or when I'm married with kids.

Wow. What a long piece. If you're still reading then clap clap congratulations on wasting 10 minutes of your time on me which you can never get back in your life wtf. I don't know why I'm telling all of you something so personal, not that anyone can decide for me but it's really bothering me and I just want to write it out. Not that it'll make me feel better but...ah... I write whatever I want why am I explaining! This is probably the most honest thing I've written in this blog. Not that normally I'm not being honest to you guys, but this is like ....hmm you guys know what I mean!

Choose Happiness.

I wanted to share with you an article I read today (from Arise India Forum)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality.

I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.
This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children’s youth and their partner’s companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again. When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

Right Time.

When I was 21 and just graduated, I wanted to travel and laze around first but I figured at that point my priority should be to get a job. Securing a job after graduation seems like the RIGHT thing to do.

When I was 24, I wanted to travel and laze around but since I just started working not long ago and at that point I'm doing pretty good so I figured it's more important to at least up the salary for a while first since I didn't have enough money not to work without depending on my parents.

When I was 27, I wanted to travel and laze around but I found a job in Singapore and it required me to start work immediately so I figured it's more important to secure that job if I ever wanted to step out of Malaysia.

When I was 29, I wanted to travel and laze around but my career is just starting and it's giving me a very comfortable life and it just seems crazy to quit before I climb further.

So...

When? When is the right time to actually take a "fake" sabbatical and go travel and laze around?
Is it crazy to live for a while without any income? Is it ok to spend the hard earned savings for a while without income? What if I can't get a job after my self declared holiday? Does career and money define a persons life.

Fuck. It's all about money, ain't it?

I have a colleague who worked here for 10 plus years already and I told him I'm really impressed how he can work here for so long. It's not like this is a bad company, just that, it's not the..best. He say he will quit when his chair breaks wtf.

Robots.

It's 3.45PM. I feel completely drained of energy. I looked around and all my co-workers are still diligently typing away to their C# and C++ and ASP etc. None is surfing the net and nobody seems distracted, even at the slightest.

After 1.5 year working here, I still cannot catch up with the working culture here. It's a vast difference compared to my previous one. I honestly do not know where they get all the energy the concentration the dedication the commitment!

I don't know whether this is a Singapore thing or just my company. I have talked to a couple of my friends in the same industry and they all say the same thing.

For instance, our lunch time is quite flexible, anytime from 11.30AM to 1.30PM. But we only go out for lunch at 12.20PM or something because everybody is so caught up with work and then reach office before 1.15PM. It's not uncommon to hear cube neighbors' sighing and complaining why the time passed so fast and that they did not even realize it's already 6.30PM. (And yes, I usually reach work at 8.25AM and leave around 6.45PM. Well what did they say about fitting in wtf) .

Seriously? You do not realize it's 6.30PM? I've been counting minutes since 3PM! I really wanted to ask them if they really REALLY did not realize it or they're just saying it to prove they very rajin wtf. Huh. I think it's the latter la but then all the way from after lunch till 6+PM I did not hear them talking rubbish or walking around doing nothing.

And...NOBODY takes leave all year long. WHAT THE FUCK??!! What are all these people made of huh? I secretly suspect they're all human skin coated robot wtf. They usually have like 15 or 20 days of leave by the end of the year and my boss have to send email out EVERY week to force people to take leave because they're not allowed to keep so many leaves till next year. WU SIAO BOH! Need to force only take leave! Then I ask them why they never take and they say "how to take? so many things to do!" And some even negotiated with the boss to keep the leaves till next year coz they really cannot find time to clear them this year.

Oh and about breakfast. People eat breakfast before they reach work. And if they didn't manage to eat before they reach work then they will tapao and eat in cube. Coz the culture is starting from the official working hours is WORKING hour not EATING hour wtf. Anyway my teammates dont quite give a fuck about that because they go to cafe and eat every morning anyway. And they'll continue doing that until some KPO want to complain about them I guess.

Is that why the country progressed and developed so much faster? Because the government have secretly built an army of robots with human face?? Are the human all dead?

Reminds me of the Robot song
"
It is the distant future, the year 2000.
We are robots.
The world is quite different ever since the robot uprising.
Affirmative.
We no longer say yes. Instead we say affirmative.
Yes, affir-affirmative.
Unless we know the other robot really well.
There is no more unethical treatment of the elephants.
Well, there's no more elephants, so.
Ahhh...
But still its good.

The humans are dead.
We used poisonous gases.
And we poisoned their asses.
"

YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF IT ?? Oh please. Go youtube it NOW! It's called Robots by Flight of the Conchords. One of my favorite album.

Stay Safe.

One thing I really love about this place is it's very, very safe. It's not just talk and talk. It really has got a proven track record. People jog on the streets, walk here and there and so far everyone I know who stays here say the same thing, that they can walk on quiet streets late at night and don't feel any fear. No thoughts of being robbed or anything even. They don't lock their car doors when they drive, and they leave their valuables in the car. When I told them I used to lock my doors the second I step into my car and carry my laptop everywhere, they laughed at me and ask why i so kua zheong wtf.

Walk on quiet streets at night? C'mon. For someone who lived in Malaysia all her life I honestly find that hard to believe because we all know what happens if girls walk alone at night in KL or wherever or whenever.

Yesterday, someone I know back in Malaysia was robbed, killed and dumped in the drains. Shit happens. All those bizarre news you read daily about robbery, rape, murder, it can happen to you when you least expect it. So, please stay alert and jaga your parents at all times also. It's not safe, and probably never will.

Modern Family.

Whenever I'm bored out of my mind or having a bad day, I'll hide in the room and watch Modern Family until I'm happy again. And it always does its job! It really does put a smile on the face.

If you haven't, please do watch it NOW! Every episode of this dysfunctional family comedy is usually of the family members bickering at each other, but it always ends with a heartwarming note and family hugs. It's very pleasant to see every episode showing the characters learning to appreciate what they had.

"You're not just making people laugh, you're making them more tolerant."
- Steve Levitan during Emmy's Best Comedy 2011 award acceptance speech

Meh

You know how cartoons always show slipping on banana skin?

I slipped on banana and fell front (but not completely on the floor) in the mall today ;( The mall is soooooo crowded there's people walking left right center front back everywhere! And I'm the ONLY ONE that walks right straight into the banana. And you think this only happens in cartoons?

I went to the bakery in the mall, and thought long and hard whether I should buy the small bun which is S$1.40. So expensive! But I'm always VERY hungry in the morning so I have no choice but buy since it's late and other bakeries are closed. I bought and went to cut my fringe. Walked back and saw the 'ALL BUNS AT S$1' sign at the bakery. Err..it's only less than 10 mins.

I walked out of the mall to the bus stop. From far I saw my bus #109 at the bus stop so I did my 100m sprint so I don't have to wait 15 mins for the next bus. I ran and ran and ran with my bun on my right hand and the takeaway Teh C hot on my left hand. There was nobody going up and down the bus, but thankfully the driver saw me running so he waited. I ran closer and closer then reach the bus door to realize it's 1-FIVE-9 NOT 1-ZERO-9. Err. o_O. Then I waved my hand to give the 'I'm not going up' sign. He must be thinking why I so sohai.

And my newly bought socks are so cheapo it not only leaves black stains all over my toenails, but it also tore apart. Today is the 1st time I wore it since I bought last weekend!

Wu siao bor! Buy toto 5 mil last week but never zong tau pio. but everyday I go through random things like this!

New PC...Not.

2 months ago, my motherboard just decided to die so I bought the lowest end MB I can find.

1 month ago, my graphic card died. I didn't replace it since my MB can provide what I wanted anyway. Which is... watch Funshion wtf.

2 weeks ago my DVD ROM stopped working. Meh -_-. That's fine. I bought an external DVD drive.

Yesterday I came home to a non working desktop! It couldn't power up. So I unplugged the DVD-ROM. Still not working. Took out both the RAM cleaned it and plugged it back. Miraculously it powered up and booted into Windows. But none of the USB ports work. After uninstall everything and reinstall the drivers, most of the USB port work but the same USB port that works for keyboard and mouse could not detect the external HDD. Tried to plug the external HDD into another PC and no problem found. Uninstalled that particular USB port, restarted PC, scanned for hardware changes, reinstall hardware driver, and I can detect the external HDD. I quickly backup all my data in the computer. Right after everything is done, I unplugged the HDD, plug it back, and it couldn't be detected again (until I repeat the whole uninstall driver and reboot and reinstall crap). But that's fine. Since I already backup my data.

Today I came home to a non working USB wireless adapter. Bloody hell. I can stand a non working external HDD but if I can't get online to do my work then it's a big no no! I repeated the whole USB driver crap but nothing works. Rebooted after reinstalling everything. Nothing works. Tried the USB wireless adapter on another PC. Doesn't work. Bugger. Then I downloaded the driver for the adapter that doesn't work for WinXP but I tried it anyway and it works??!! Kanasai betul.

Now I can get online and use my mouse and keyboard. But external HDD still cant be detected until I do the uninstall reinstall yada yada yada.

I'm not the type of person that goes out and buy things even though I already know what I want, at least not until I asked 23482347255625 people about that thing and then still end up thinking whether I should buy it after asking the 23482347255625th person. 90% of the time I end up not buying =(

Dear PC, I know you're 6 years old and has been used extensively for 13 hours daily 7 days a week but please, you know I'm not that techie geek that know how to debug you so please, please stop giving me anymore trouble at least until I get another laptop to replace you ok? Next year ok?

Sigh Out Loud

I realized that whenever I have a lot on my mind then I tend to sigh out loud repeatedly, until I realize I am sighing out loud then I will stop sighing but I will feel very uncomfortable for not sighing when I still have a lot on my mind.

LIFE

I was cleaning my extremely messy desktop and found this.

I wanted to credit the owner but I don't even remember where I got it from!

Migraines

I should be blogging about Hanoi, team building, annual dinner, random outings, but instead, I will write crap today. Because I haven't downloaded the photos. My camera now stores photos from April till now, proven I dont take much photos or it means my SD card storage is sibeh big.

Today I woke up with a headache. I've headaches every other day since yearssss ago and it's really frustrating. I consider myself to have quite a high pain tolerance because I can still function fine and eat well despite having the kind of headache that will drive other people crazy so when I say my headache is bad then IT IS REALLY BLOODY FUCKING PAINFUL. It's making me really stressed out about this whole headache thing and I was even admitted once, did a CT scan (I think) before but thank God they found nothing suspicious inside. I secretly hope they find something (benign wan la of course) and take it out once and for all wtf.

After much visits to different clinics, I can confirm that it's in fact migraine (according to 3 different doctors) based on the symptoms:

1. Throbbing pain on only one side of the head
2. Nausea and Vomitting
3. Loss of sleep due to throbbing pain
4. Sleepiness (cannot decide if this is one of the symptom or just me being lazy)
5. happen every other day without any reason
6. Craving for sweet/salty food

Yah. They even asked me to clench my fist and check my eyesight to make sure its not too serious.

The doctors told me there's no cure, only migraine relief measures and taking painkillers when it happens. I didn't quite believe so I googled it.

and the result

the website is even called headacheeveryday.com wtf.

So according to it, there is really no cure. Sigh.

Doctors prescribed me different types of migraine painkiller but none works. There's only 1 thing that can do the job: PANADOL EXTRA. Trust me if you have migraine like me, take the PANADOL EXTRA. 2 biji only within half an hour you will be up and running.

Yah unfortunately I can't work from home and sleep whenever I have migraine like last time. Nowadays I have to get my ass to work even with the throbbing pain and drink lots of water hoping it would go away before noon so I can continue work..rajin maksimum.

Anyway today I have a sudden realization wtf. When I wake up this morning I find myself clenching my teeth until my gum hurts. And then I realize that every morning I wake up to myself clenching my teeth. I googled it! And it's true! Clenching teeth might be one of the reason causing migraine! Plus my mum always say my sleeping position very weird like misplacing my head and neck and bingo! Also listed as one of the migraine cause. Okay so from now on, I'll try not to clench my teeth (dont know how to do that since I can't control myself when I'm asleep wtf) and sleep straight on my back.

Secara kesimpulannya, panadol extra does the work. Give it a try if you find other painkillers not giving you the relief.

Good things should happen to good people, right? I can understand all the bad things that happen to me, but when I see bad things happen to good people, I start to question where is god and why is this happening if He is watching? Spare us through your mercy.

1 Year.

Today marks my 1 year anniversary in Singapore. It's been one damn year. Wow can you believe how time flies?

I wasn't actively searching for a job back then. Mid May last year I randomly sent out my resume to a company. Then within the week I went through 2 interviews with the manager and flew down the following week for the final meet up. That same week I tendered resignation and within a month I left. I didn't even serve my 2 months notice but was compensated for it. Friday was my last day in Penang, Saturday & Sunday spent moving in, and started work on Monday.

Too many things too little time. Not to mention that myriad of emotion I felt within that few weeks.

It all seem like they just happened yesterday. I still remember clearly all the faces of my closest friends who showed up in the airport to bid me last goodbye, and that last hug and tears with my 2 most treasured girls Pey Shu (that was before they knew I still go back to PG twice every year where they get sick of bidding me goodbye). I was thinking if Jes is there I would cry earlier coz she made it so much easier for me to cry wtf.

A ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are built for.

All my close friends know I never liked Singapore. Otherwise, I would have looked for a job there right after I graduated just like everyone else. I've been going to Singapore pretty often since half of my family members are there but each time I go, I felt the city is so hostile and hectic. No actually I can't exactly pinpoint one specific reason why I hated it. I just know that's the last place I would choose to stay.

What a joke. Look where I am now.

So how do I feel after 1 year in Singapore. Hmm.

Well, all I can say is, you have to try it to know it. Many people told me Singapore is a terrible country to live in. Mind you, these are the people who've only been here for a couple of days or 2 weeks AT MOST. What do you know about a city you've only stayed in for 2 weeks? Peanuts. Just like how I kept saying I left my heart in SF but that is because I was there on business trips where everything is paid for and life is good. Wait till I have to look for job, and mortgage and tax. By then, I don't think SF would be half as interesting as I thought it is.

OK. I don't exactly have a list. Let me just write down whatever that pops into my mind.

1. Food sucks. Everyone would agree with me, except, maybe the Singaporeans wtf. I go to the hawker everyday not knowing what to eat and can't decide which stall is lousier. Penang won hands down. Any PG char kuay teow from random street would win even the best in Singapore. On average I spend ~$4 per meal for hawker everyday. On extremely good days (once every month?) I probably spend $10 a meal at most. Nola to be honest, I don't even have the chance to spend anything more than $5 because my colleagues are not very willing to spend more than $5 for lunch. They could spend all their money on branded bags and luxurious holidays but lunch? Even KFC would be a once-in-a-while-treat. BUT, you have more options. In one hawker, or one stretch of road, you get local, japanese, korean, indonesian, malay. You get to try different things everyday. The restaurants, on the other hand, are all star rated. You can get one satisfying yummilicious Japanese food for under $25 per person. The same amount of food and quality would probably cost RM50 in Malaysia. Especially Ramen, my dears. You can hardly find anything that is equally as good as what they have here.

2. I eat alone almost every other day. And I'm okay with it. First few times I was pretty self conscious. But it's not like when I'm back in Malaysia where everyone has a car and just a ping on msn can get everyone driving to the dinner place or even go in a car together. Here, none of my friends have a car (nobody thinks it's worth it to spend on a car). Any dinner dates or movie dates have to be planned earlier so we can meet up in the central MRT or check on buses/MRT that will bring you to the place. You can't do that every single day. On usual days you'll just fuck it lah and eat anywhere on the way home alone. It isn't weird here. Most people eat alone so you wont feel like you're the odd one out. Now I'm oblivious to my surrounding and just enjoy my bowl of not very delicious noodle wtf.

3. As everyone has heard, Kiasuland is full of self centered people. One of my friend in PG came to SG before me (he's back in PG now btw) and told me the company here sucks and everything is horrible and colleagues are boring. Which also became one of the reason I wasn't looking forward to working here. Maybe I'm just fortunate to have joined this company as my first. My colleagues are all polite and nice (sometimes TOO polite and TOO nice). I'm not born to be that nice okay. Some days I'd give anything so anyone can just say the word FUCK out loud here. Ya right, in my dream. Anything worse than "shit" is considered very vulgar. But they're all VERY VERY helpful. They would sit by me and help me go through all the things if I don't know how to do it (even until now), and if there are troublesome users they would also help me to tell them off since I'm new. I don't know how is it in other companies maybe it's true they're all kiasu there but here, where I work, I really can't feel that culture at all. People bring food to office and share around, eat lunch in big gang of 15, go places to yumcha after lunch before we go back to office, go badminton together every week and random dinners every now and then. Colleagues are a bit older than me but all below 35, I think. Difference is, they're all married with commitments so there's hardly any spontaneous after work or weekend activity like I used to have back then with all the young bachelors. That's a pity though. But I can live with that.

4. My company has 3 huge buildings, almost the size of 5 PG12. There're thousands of worker I think but the car park spaces is just the size of PG12 car park A only, and even that, it's NEVER full. Amazing huh. At first I was not used to it, it's a bit tiring to wait for buses and not to mention the time wasted on traveling. To and fro work is about 1 hour each day but only cost me $2.40. I don't have to maintain a car, pay for car petrol and pay for parking. So that saves up a lot plus..I can sleep in the bus! Some days I'm really sick of it though. I'd try to convince myself it's worth it to pay that much extra to buy the comfort of being able to drive to work or anywhere I like and spare myself from feeling nauseous every time I get on the bus (if you know me, you'd know I have serious motion sickness problem). I tore my slipper even before 1 year cause I walk 1000 steps a day wtf. I could easily use a pair of slipper for 6 years in Msia and even I throw it away also because I'm sick of the same slipper not because it koyak already you see. And when I sweat like pig waiting or run after buses , I damn wish I'm back in Malaysia where I have the comfort of the humble little Vios. Sigh. Sacrifices, people.

5. SAFETY. You can walk on the street at midnight feeling safe. People run in parks everyday. I hardly see any police/police patrol cars around but even if I actually do, they look approachable. Unlike those in Malaysia where I tensed up when I run into one even when I didn't do anything wrong because even so most of the time they'll look for trouble anyway. Need I say more? Places are generally cleaner. You hardly see people just randomly throw papers or anything on the roadside and mostly roads and buildings are a lot cleaner than how it was back in Malaysia. Mostly people just smoke in their designated smoking area so as long as I avoid those places, my hair will smell smoke free.

6. I learn not to mess with old people. Don't get me wrong. It's not like I hated them or what but old people can be really rude and ignorant and think they own the world, just because they're...well..old. If you didn't let them cut queue or anything they will stare at you and sometimes they gave you one long string of extremely vulgar words that you never hear before in your life. Other than that I think generally people are more courteous here where anyone will definitely give up their seat for the elder, the preggies and people with kids. But sometimes I find it hard to judge coz I'm not sure if that person is old enough to deserve the seat else if I let them they might feel offended coz they're actually not THAT old. You know what I mean?

7. Work is a lot tougher. Workload is reasonable and I'm still learning things. Tougher in the sense that I need to be in office at least NINE hours a day. There's no such thing as working from home and there's no such thing as taking 2 weeks leave continuously. Each month I have to do a presentation on what I've done the previous month and how much that translates to company savings or earnings. Even when I'm sick nowadays I just drag my ass to work. Each day I miss work, is a lesser chance I get to prove myself. At the beginning I was not used to it and I felt so miserable. Considering I sleep till 8 and reach work at 9 or sometimes after lunch and go home at 4.30pm last time, this is like a whole new kind of hell to me. But 6 months down the road I'm slowly getting used to it. Colleagues are all very dedicated. They really make use of the whole 9 hours and hardly anyone takes long breaks in between or curi tulang. Hmm. I wish they can hire someone who's equally lazy so I can curi tulang with together wtf.

I still have many stories and learning I'd love to share, but I shall spare you with the many boring details =)

1 year ago, I wrote I'm going to venture out and see if the grass is greener on the other side. The grass is not always green here, but I still think I made the right decision. I learn a lot, I experienced a lot more things, I'm open up to more possibilities and opportunities, I reconciled with primary & secondary mates whom I've not seen for years. So you see, my nest was very comfortable before this, and I thought I'd never be able to find someplace equally good or better. Never try never know. Progress always involve risks. You can't steal second base and keep your foot on first.

Many ask me if I plan to settle down here. I don't know if I'll change my mind few years down the road, but for now, the answer is No. Not at this point. Friends who have moved here told me it's not possible. When you're earning this currency, going back to Malaysia and getting a job in RM would never cut it. I don't know about that. But for now, I'd still choose to go back to Malaysia any day and enjoy that glorious plate of Nasi Lemak whenever I like.

Take risks: If you win, you will be happy, If you lose, you will be wise.

Let's say you have A. You know of B's existence, and at one time you had the chance to have B but you didn't want to.

Then after what seems like forever, someone offered you B. You're thinking B is not what you want, but this time you wanted to go try to get B anyway, for whatever reasons. You're thinking no harm done since if you get it, it's a bonus and if you didn't then whatever la.

In the end, you didn't get B. And you felt......down and upset and disappointed. But why do you feel upset when you didn't even wanted it in the first place?

Sometimes I confuse myself. Have I lost focus on what I want. More importantly, do I know what I want? And I think the feeling of letting down the person who offered me B is what I feel bad about. Like I'm useless.

Sigh.

含笑半步釘

I have been really busy recently, mostly working during weekdays and all weekends I'm not in SG. I usually leave right after work on Friday and reach back almost midnight on Sundays. Some nights spent reading up some stuff and the rest of the time spent catching up on my favorite dramas on Funshion!

So besides the usual Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, The L Word, CSI etc etc I also watched a lot of Hong Kong series and the latest being 女拳. I hope I wrote it correctly. It's about Kung Fu and Wong Fei Hung. Kung Fu movies are funny. Everytime they try to learn Kung Fu they either just watch some sifu demonstrate kung fu once and they can remember and replay the whole thing. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE summore it's always very long and very complicated and a lot of styles but they just watch and they can remember. And also most of the time they just read some kung fu books with simple drawings and they can understand. Put down the book then start kungfu-ing. wtf.

I havent been shopping a lot, compared to last month. I overspent in April getting over excited over bonuses then regretted after checking on my bills. So I just jalan around in the mall without buying anything, the most also buy bubble tea only. BUT I'm waiting for the Great Singapore Sales! I'm seriously considering whether I should take leave on the first day of GSS so the things I want to buy wont be out of size.

WHICH ALSO MEANS I need start going on diet. As you can see from all my entries they're all about fooood and fooood and foood and more fooooood. It's about time to get that ass to the gym!

Hmm. What else. Oh I also have been eating a lot of sweets lately. Not a big fan of sweets but this gum that Stephen bought for me from Japan blew me away! I didn't expect it to be so good. Tried one and finished like 10 in less than 5 minutes.

The gum I mentioned is the 3 bars on the top right corner. IT IS SO GOOD TRUST ME. When I finished them I was so upset then I found out he still kept like 10 more bars in his room to be used on me when I was upset or angry or anything. So now everytime I get upset he just whip out 1 bar and I'll be happy again wtf. See. He learns new tricks so we're happy all the time!

Shu went to Taiwan (the trip that I am supposed to go too =( for NYE remember?) and bought me more sweets! She came to SG for her friend's ROM and we met up in Orchard and then pulled her back home with me and...heh heh heh....play mahjong. Anyway I dont want to talk about that already lah I drove her to my place, let her blow my aircond wtf and she drank my water then tipu my bf's mahjong money back to Penang. I shall revenge...soon.

Yah when she gave me the box I thought is what. A bit disappointed just sweet only lah haahhaha.

I dont know why the hell all my photos are rotated but since I'm this lazy blogger whatever I wont spend time rotating it back or editing it. There're plenty more of the milk tea and grapefruit sweets in the box so most nights I'll just pop one when I'm watching Funshion. Breakfast lunch dinner already eat like a giant and at night always gobbling sweets aiyoh how la like that!

And remember the famous Stephen Chow movie on 含笑半步釘 ? Haha that's the green one at the bottom. When she passed to me I didn't give any reaction coz those few words a bit tough to read then she has to explain to me wtf.

Dont we all miss Stephen Chow! Esp those times we spent playing mahjong in LSP place with him serving us water and food and use his air cond whole night while watching Stephen Chow! Good times good times.

Upset.

Few days ago, I posted

In 2 days I will be flying off to Taiwan for a great 10 days trip round the country and shouting Happy New Year 2011 at Taipei 101. Exciting much?

Now is the "2 days" already. And I'm still here in Malaysia typing this.

My flight was 10am this morning. Woke up at 6.30am, caught a bus from Sentral to LCCT. Happily checking bags in. And looking around for breakfast.

At 9.00am. My passport was stolen.

Police report made. Lost & Found informed. Checked-in bag retrieved. Bought a bus ticket, went to Putrajaya to appeal for new passport. Now pending for lost passport investigation and nothing will be filed until the immigration office opens again on Monday after all the public holiday. Tentatively expected time is 30 days and fastest is 7 days.

No Taiwan. No glorious countdown for an awesome year. Nothing.

Whole day stayed in Putrajaya going around Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to get a birth cert replacement, Commission of Oath to swear on the truth for the lost passport, Police Station, Immigration Dept, Passport Dept. Going to and fro while crying the whole day.

If I say I am depressed now, that is truly an understatement.

Random Thoughts.

The other day I was chatting with a friend and he said that my life seems a lot better after I moved here.

It is only somewhat true.

Somedays, after I switched off the light and lie on the bed, it makes me sick to the stomach knowing that Hui Yien is not 7 floors downstairs and ShuShan and Joe is not opposite my block.

At times it really sucks, knowing that I couldn't drive to 5.2 tomorrow to occupy Kevin's cube the whole day and pinch and kick him every 5 minutes, or tell him I think I am pregnant and then have him look at me in horror, or go to Kayu at 4.30pm weekly with Porny and Kevin and LSP and VSoon, or go to work at 9am everyday and had 1 hour breakfast of 10000 bullshits with YYY and Shu, or go to work to find Milo on my cube table from CheongSiak and ChinCheong (it never fail to make my day), or listen to CheongSiak scolding people in Hokkien or slamming the keyboard in the cube next to mine, or being a true bitch in front of Porny and yet constantly remind him that he should be thankful for a friend like me, or go to lunch with everyone in Kim Gary (hoping that I can lunch there everyday even though the food sucks but I just like to hang out there), or say Pey short everytime I see her, or the occasional pot luck in her house, or YYY's 7pm dinner sms, and criticize his aircond-less ferrari, or hang out in LSP house to watch Stephen Chow and play mahjong every Saturday (serious! we have to watch Stephen Chow everytime we play mahjong dont know why), or go karaoke with Shu, YYY, Ya Wen every Friday lunch until we have no other friends, or pass by Joe's cube and caught him looking at photography forums (all the time), or sit in cube and wait for Pei Shan to hand deliver her home made cakes, or the annual clubbing session with Joel and gang and hoping someone get drunk and humiliate himself so I can laugh at him the next day (*cough* YYY *cough*), or peep whether Joe's car or Porny's car is still parked beside and below mine when I go to work in the morning, or go back to Danzity opposite Qbay and dance the night away with Grace and AngieX2 and ChengLin and ChiaHuey because I had the best times there, and some 199737423462437525 other things that I can never finish listing.

Or..simply, just be able to call them and have them drive me out anytime anyday whenever I am feeling bored and just, sit in a cafe whole night and sigh our life away.

Everything that I do there is nothing great, but all that has become a routine, a habit, something that I have and WILL do every day every week, but still enjoy it nonetheless.

I felt horrible at times. Because this is not a matter of just being away on a business trip for 3 months or 1 year and get back to how things were. I would not be able to do any of the above anymore in my life and sometimes when I think of that, I could almost feel the pair of tears escape and I have to tell myself that all this is for the better. I cannot stay in the same situation just for this, because, people move on, they move forward and they improve their life. I can't stay stagnant just for this things that I want to be able to do everyday. One day, everyone would have their own direction and their own family and their own life. No matter what, one day, we won't be able to have breakfast and lunch and dinner and keep each other company every single day. Which reminds me, Porny used to tell me he has nothing to talk to me because our communication quota is up for all the hours that we spent together wtf.

So, yes, life is great here. But it would be a whole lot greater if I have them here with me. (and so I hope everyday that Penang island would sink soon so they will all move here.)

For better or worse.

I am going through quite a turning point in my life right now. Considering I am not the kind of person who welcome changes much, this is really quite tough for me. I have had sleepless nights rolling around the bed, not knowing if I had made the right choice, and a lot of what-ifs. What if I made the wrong choice? What if I try this? What if I do that instead? For days, or should I just say the whole week, I never actually felt good, at all. I don't feel good sitting down, I don't feel good standing up, I don't feel good eating this, I don't feel good lying down, I don't feel good showering. Nothing feels good! Even after I made the decision, I wasn't sure. Everything everyone said to me affects me so much and I changed my mind a million, no, a BILLION and one time (and still is ). It's not easy. I'm a boring person. I'm not adventurous. I don't like changes. I am really not a true Sagittarius.

I happen to read what the happy misfit wrote and for a moment there, I told myself that there's no harm changing, good or bad, things WILL happen and everything is an experience, no matter how bad it turns out to be, it still IS a life experience. So what if I really made the wrong decision? It's not the end of the world. There somewhere, is always another door out.

I think that when death is the first big event of your life, when you know death before you know life, it changes you somehow. It changes the way you live. I watch people live as though it’s forever and I do not do that, I do not live like that. I’ve known, for as long as I can remember, that it is not a question of if, it is a question of when. I will die. That one thought, for many years, chased me into every light filled corner I stood in. It haunted and obsessed me. And then it stopped, just like that. It stopped chasing me, or I maybe I just stopped chasing it. Maybe that’s why I live the way I do. Maybe that’s why I can walk away from a career to tend bar without giving it a second thought. Maybe that’s why I can move to the other side of the world to love someone I barely know. Maybe that’s why I throw myself into things completely, whole heartedly, intensely, and then, just as quickly run. Because I am going to die but first I’m going to live. (When my father died, the last poem, the last line he wrote – I want to live – still.) Maybe that’s why I do not accept the it’s not possibles, or the it’s not logicals, or the it is unreasonables. Maybe that’s why I wear my heart on my sleeve and say what I think and do not care about what’s proper and what’s acceptable. I know that my way of being brings me trouble and hurt and sadness, and that more often than not, I trip and I fall, but I also know that I make magic sometimes, I really do, and sometimes, sometimes I even fly a little before I fall. And that’s always been, always will be, enough.

--

Sigh, that MAGIC, is what I'm looking for right now.

A blog really reflects how one is feeling. I don't cater to hundreds or thousands of reader so mostly everything I write is more personal. I write angry entries. I write emo entries. I don't know if you noticed but my happy entries are getting lesser and lesser. I find it really hard to come up with a decent entry, to pen down any nice things that are happening. I can, but that'd be lying.

Because I'm not alright. In fact, I'm far from being alright. I dropped by the florist and got myself african daisies because they have good memories and I really need all the colors I can have right now. But the stalks of gerbera I carefully placed beside my bed serve no purpose. I looked at them and I felt nothing. Nothing.

These days I feel nothing.

My days are so tough. I don't get through days anymore. They just passed. All I wanted to do is pull the curtains and lie in bed all day under the comforter. I don't want to wake up and get food because food gives me energy to get out of bed. And that is the definitely not what I want. I just want to lie there all day and think of nothing and do nothing. I don't want to open my eyes and see things I didn't wish to see. I don't want to hear anyone say things that could put me further into the dark.

As I grow older, I look at everything in a different light. Everything I used to think makes me happy..they don't anymore. I have a different perspectives on everything I have in my life right now. My career. My life goal. The place I stay. The food I eat. The things I do. The people I have.

Things changed.

One day I wake up to find myself unloved. Unloved in many different ways. I almost can feel like there's a stone stuck inside me and it's making me hard to breathe. At times I really forgot to breathe. And when I do realize I will take a reaaaally deep breath and my mind will zone out for a while. I miss the person I used to be. Really. I missed being ignorant. I missed being happy with every little things. I miss being elated over 1 ham chin peng.

I can lie to everybody. I can even lie to myself but I'm finding it really hard to even convince myself these days. I feel pathetic. I don't love myself. Nothing can be worse than one feeling like they're not worth a single cent. Nothing is worse than when one's self-confidence is stripped off. I am so belittled beyond words. When I look myself in the mirror I don't feel pretty anymore. I don't whip out my camera and cam whore shamelessly. I look at myself and I wish I am a little thinner, I wish my hair is a little more lustrous, I wish my eye bags are a little smaller, I wish I am a little fairer, I wish I am not where I am, I wish people close to me would give me a little more credit. I honestly don't think I am as bad as how they make me feel. I honestly think I have improved a lot over these years but it doesn't seem that way to me now. People close to me have no good words for me. Do you know how sad that is :( I have so many things to say but I don't know how to put them into words. I don' know how to stand up and defend myself. Each time I just sighed and let it go. I don't know what else I can say to make my point or how I can to send the message across at all.

So yes, life is tough on me right now.

I'll be fine because I'm trying hard to make a change. I am confident I can lift myself up again because nobody else would. I've always been alone all this while so I'm pretty sure this time I'll do just fine too. I don't want to just blame god or blame the luck because this has absolutely nothing to do with either of that. Everything I have right now is a choice I made before so I'm going to stick with it, live with it, find ways to do better with it. I could have just pack my bags and leave like how I always do, avoiding problems, but I think I'm old enough to just face things like a real woman!

I will be better in no time. I am sure I will. *chants to self. Joe told me: 不完美才有进步的空间。Well I guess that'll do for now.

Dammit, mid-life crisis come a little too soon.
